I wonder how many of you who are reading this, and are familiar with Boys Hope Girls Hope of St. Louis Missouri, formally called the Jesuit Program for Living and Learning (JPLL), have heard the name of Deacon William "Bill" Emerson? Not many I suspect, but you certainly should know his name as he was a co-founder of the Jesuit Program for Living and Learning who from its inception helped to establish the program and played a significant role in its initial founding and creation. Deacon Emerson also contributed much to its early development and structure and as the Programs Director of Operations from 1977-1982, he was in a major leadership role during the early stages of its formation until he left the program in 1982.
Those of you who have not heard Deacon William Emerson's name because St. Louis Jesuit Priest Father Paul Sheridan, who is a member of the U.S. Central and Southern Province of the Society of Jesus Society of Jesus, also known as the Jesuits erased Deacon Emerson's name from the Jesuit Program for Living and Learning/Boys Hope Girls Hope history, just as he erased the boys who were molested by Deacon William Emerson from its history, but I am here to tell you about the hidden history of pedophilia that began at the inception of the Jesuit Program for Living and Learning (JPLL)and continued for years under Father Paul Sheridan's supervision, or lack thereof.
In 1977, St. Louis Missouri Jesuit Priest Father Paul Sheridan hired his best friend, Deacon William Emerson, an accused pedophile, now a known pedophile to the Archdiocese of Boston MA, to be the Director of Operations at the Jesuit Program for Living and Learning, later renamed Boys Hope Girls Hope, which was an organization Father Paul Sheridan founded for homeless boys in Saint Louis Missouri in 1976, with his best friend Deacon William Emerson who from its inception helped to establish the program and played a significant role in its initial founding and creation. How do you think that turned out, not well, not well at all for the boys that were molested, which is why Father Paul Sheridan erased Deacon Emerson and his significant contributions to the Jesuit Program for Living and Learning/Boys Hope Girls Hope Program from its history.

Father Paul Sheridan hired Deacon William Emerson as the Director of Operations to run the day-to-day operations of the Jesuit Program for Living and Learning despite knowing that Deacon Emerson had been accused in 1976 of pedophilia at Boys Town in Omaha Nebraska where he and Deacon William Emerson first met, worked together, and became best friends.
This would prove to be an uncontainable decision on Father Paul Sheridan's part when in 1982 numerous boys living at the Jesuit Program for Living and Learning reported that they were being drugged and molested by Deacon William Emerson, who shortly after the accusations was found in possession of a bag containing hypodermic needles and prescription drugs which were found in his room, which none of the boys in the program had been prescribed, and Deacon William Emerson denied were his.
Rather than report his best friend to the authorities Father Paul Sheridan, not being able to cover for his best friend this time, asked Deacon Emerson to move on, which he did without consequence once again, this time to an unsuspecting Parish in Tewksbury Massachusetts.

Then in 2021, Deacon William Emerson was found by the Archdiocese of Boston Massachusetts to have sexually abused a young boy under the age of 13 over 100 times at St. William’s Parish in Tewksbury MA.
During the 38 years that Deacon William "Bill" Emerson served as a Deacon in the Catholic Church he worked at Boys Town in Omaha Nebraska where he was accused of pedophilia, then the Jesuit Program for Living and Learning where he was once again accused of pedophilia, and then St. William Parish in Tewksbury Massachusetts where he was defrocked by the Archdiocese of Boston for having molested a child at St. Williams Parish over one hundred (100) times.
Deacon Emerson was ordained as a Permanent Deacon in the Diocese of Omaha, Nebraska in 1973 while working at Boy's Town and remained there until 1976, three (3) years, until accusations of molestation were levied against him, Boys Town House parent Mike Wolf, who is now a known pedophile, and Boys Town Counselor Henry Grenier who was also a pedophile.
In 1977 Deacon Emerson was hired by Father Paul Sheridan to be the Director of Operations at the Jesuit Program for Living and Learning until 1982, six (6) years, when accusations of molestation were made against him by boys living at the Jesuit Program for Living and Learning.
In 1982 Deacon Emerson was granted faculties to serve as a Deacon in the Archdiocese of Boston and began working as a Deacon at St. Williams Parish in Tewksbury Massachusetts. In 2012, after twenty-nine (29) years working at Saint William's Parish in Tewksbury MA, and as a Massachusetts prison Chaplain, Deacon Emerson admitted to smuggling drugs into the Middlesex County House of Correction in Billerica Massachusetts to young inmates with whom he was having sex. Then in 2021, Deacon William Emerson was found by the Archdiocese of Boston MA to have sexually abused a young boy under the age of 13 over 100 times at St. William’s Parish in Tewksbury MA.
How many young boys were molested by Deacon Emerson between the time he was ordained in 1973 and his faculties were removed by the Archdiocese of Boston in 2011? Truth be told, no one knows, but Massachusetts Attorney, Mitchell Garabedian, who represented the boy that Deacon Emerson molested at Saint Williams Parish believes that Deacon Emerson likely molested hundreds (100s) of boys during his thirty-eight (38) year tenure as a Deacon in the Catholic Church.
While it is true that in the 1970s Catholic Priests did not report other priests for pedophilia, Father Paul Sheridan could have and should have gone to the authorities and reported the accusations of molestation that had been levied against Deacon Emerson.
I want to make clear that while I do NOT accuse Father Paul Sheridan of Pedophilia, I do blame him for not reporting Deacon William Emerson to the authorities in Omaha Nebraska and St. Louis Missouri for pedophilia. Had Father Sheridan done so the boy that the Archdiocese of Boston found to have been molested by Deacon William Emerson, over 100 times, would have never been molested.
Today, Father Paul Sheridan has no problem condemning pedophilia in the Catholic Church because it is now the accepted thing to do, but back in the day, he kept quiet like all Catholic Priests did back then.
While I do not know why Father Sheridan did not turn Deacon William Emerson into the Catholic Church or the authorities, I believe it was a combination of the fact that he and Deacon Emerson were best friends and the fact that back then, just as today, the Catholic Church has a history of silencing and punishing whistleblower priests who report misconduct or sexual abuse by other priests.
I recently saw Father Paul Sheridan posing for a photo at his 80th birthday party celebrating all of his accomplishments with his hand on a Bible. All I could think was what a sanctimonious phony. Father Paul Sheridan is no better than his 339 brethren whose names have been released publicly by his own religious order, the Society of Jesus, as having credible allegations of sexual abuse of a minor against them. While it appears Father Sheridan has never been accused of pedophilia, he has covered for at least one pedophile, Deacon William "Bill" Emerson.
I then saw a photo on the Boys Hope Girls Hope website of Father Paul Sheridan sitting in a vehicle wearing what appears to be his underwear (See the photo above) and a tee shirt sitting next to a young boy who was living at the Jesuit Program for Living (JPLL) and Learning. This infuriated me even more as many of the children who were molested at the Jesuit Program for Living and Learning were molested in vehicles by Deacon Emerson, Father Michael McGrath, and house parent Henry Grenier.
Regardless of what anyone believes, these are facts. Deacon William Emerson, a known pedophile, was accused of pedophilia at Boys Town in Omaha Nebraska after working there for three (3) years after he was ordained. He then fled to St. Louis Missouri with the help of Father Paul Sheridan where he ran the Jesuit Program for Living and Learning Program, now Boys Hope Girls Hope, under Father Paul Sheridan's supervision, or lack thereof, from 1977-1982, six (6) years, until he was accused of pedophilia there. He then fled to St. Williams Parish in Tewksbury Massachusetts where he admitted in 2012 to smuggling drugs into the Middlesex County House of Correction in Billerica Massachusetts to young inmates with whom he was having sex, and in 2021 was found to have sexually abused a young boy under the age of 13 over 100 times at St. William’s Parish in Tewksbury MA.
Regardless, of whether or not you believe what I have said the facts are that for 39 years the Catholic Church allowed Deacon William Emerson to run amok with countless numbers of young boys with no oversight or supervision, and as a result boys were molested, myself included.
This is also a fact. Father Michael McGrath of St. Louis Missouri, who was good friends with Deacon Emerson and Father Paul Sheridan, frequented the Jesuit Program for Living and Learning for years in the late 1970s, regularly took children from the Jesuit Program for Living and Learning on outings in his church van, and is today is Missouri's most notorious child sex offender, who was Laicized in 2005 by the Archdiocese of St. Louis. It should be noted that the majority of children molested by Father Michael McGrath were molested in his church van. It should also be noted that Father Michael McGrath and Deacon William Emerson remained good friends for years after Deacon Emerson was asked by Father Sheridan to leave the Jesuit Program for Living and Learning. Father McGrath even brought young boys in his church van from parishes in the St. Louis area to visit Deacon William Emerson at St. Williams Parish where he and the Boys stayed with Deacon Emerson. How do you think that went? Not well for the boys given that both Father McGrath and Deacon Emerson were both defrocked by the Catholic Church for pedophilia.
Then there was Jesuit Program for Living and Learning house parent Henry Grenier who left behind accusations of molestation at Boys Town in Omaha Nebraska to come work at the Jesuit Program for Living and Learning in St. Louis Missouri. While Henry Grenier was not a clergy member he did work for Father Paul Sheridan at the Jesuit Program for Living and Learning and forced at least one of the boys living at the Jesuit Program for Living to perform oral sex on him regularly. I would say this constituted pedophilia, wouldn't you?
I knew Father Paul Sheridan for approximately eight years, and during that time I knew him I knew several of his very good friends including Boys Town House Parent Michael Wolf, Boys Town Counselor/Jesuit Program for Living and Learning house parent Henry Grenier, St. Louis Catholic Priest Father Michael McGrath, and Deacon William "Bill" Emerson. What did all of these individuals have in common, each and every one of these individuals was a pedophile.
To believe that Father Paul Sheridan did not know that one of, some of, or all of these individuals were pedophiles is to believe Father Paul Sheridan was an idiot, but he was no idiot, he just looked the other way and covered for his pedophile friends, which is what all Catholic Priests did back then.
Those of you who are familiar with the Jesuit Program for Living and Learning, now called Boys Hope Girls Hope, should ask Father Paul Sheridan why there is no mention of Deacon William Emerson's significant contributions to the Jesuit Program For Living and Learning/Boys Hope Girls Hope during its first six (6) years after its inception.
Father Paul Sheridan did NOT run the day to day operation of the Jesuit Program for Living and Learning for the first six (6) years after its inception, Deacon William Emerson did. What Father Paul did do is get the programs first house on Lawn Pl, named the program the Jesuit Program for Living and Learning, and then hired his best friend, an accused pedophile, now a known pedophile, to run it.
During its first six (6) years after its inception in 1977, Deacon William ran the Jesuit Program for Living and Learning, raised a great deal of money for the program and even raised the money to open a second house for the Jesuit Program for Living and Learning at 4944 Wise Avenue in St. Louis where Father Paul Sheridan maintained a bedroom and lived with many of the Jesuit Program for Living and Learning boys around the clock, which was inappropriate then and would never be allowed today.
Many people will say that St. Louis Catholic Priest Father Paul Sheridan would have never covered for a pedophile, but he did.
Many people also would have never believed that Deacon William Emerson was a pedophile, but he was.
Many people said that St. Louis Priest Father Michael McGrath, Father Paul's Sheridan's good friend, would have never molested a child, but he did, and today is Missouri's most notorious child sex offender.

Many people in St. Louis Missouri and Omaha Nebraska would have never thought that former St. Louis Priest George Lucas, who is now Omaha Nebraska's Archbishop, would have ever been accused of pedophilia, but he has been.
Who am I to make such accusations? I lived at the Jesuit Program for Living and Learning Program, now Boys Hope Girls Hope, for six (6) years as a young boy with Deacon William Emerson and Father Paul Sheridan. I am also a victim of molestation that occurred at Jesuit program for Living and learning.
Today if you go online and look up Jesuit Priest Father Paul Sheridan you will find that he is considered a Saint who is likely to be canonized upon his passing for founding the Jesuit Program for Living and Learning, now Boys Hope Girls Hope, but don't be fooled, he is just as guilty of covering for a pedophilia Deacon as his 339 brethren are guilty of pedophilia.
Let me tell you this, having lived with Father Paul Sheridan for nearly six years and having known him for eight years in my youth, he is no Saint. He is just a mere man, who has both evil and good in his heart, as all men do.
There is a quote by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn that reads: "The battle-line between good and evil runs through the heart of every man."
Catholic Priests are just mere men, are they not? Yes, they are, and seeing them as more than just mere men is what has allowed them to get away with pedophilia for centuries.
Having grown up in the Catholic Church, and being a victim of child sexual abuse by a Catholic Clergy member, I believe that there are three types of Catholic Priests. Priests who have been outed as pedophiles, Priests who have not yet been outed as pedophiles, and those priests who ignore or cover up priestly pedophilia, which is what I accuse Father Paul Sheridan of doing.
While Father Paul Sheridan can and will deny these allegations, he can NOT deny that he employed an accused pedophile, who is now a known pedophile, to run the Jesuit Program for Living and Learning from 1977 - 1982, Six (6) years, which is along time to allow a pedophile to run amok in a boys home, with no oversight and no supervision by his Jesuit employer/s.
Between Deacon William Emerson, Father Michael McGrath, and house parent Henry Grenier, all known pedophiles, it is unknown how many boys were molested at the Jesuit Program for Living and Learning/Boys Hope Girls Hope, but during the six years these individuals were a part of the Jesuit Program for Living and Learning/Boys Hope Girls Hope, I suspect many more than I know of.

While many of Deacon William Emerson's victims now have no recourse due to Nebraska and Missouri's unconscionable statute of limitations regarding child sexual abuse there are no doubt more victims of Deacon William Emerson in Massachusetts and New Hampshire who have not come forward who still do have recourse.
Deacon Emerson was accused of using drugs to molest children while working at the Jesuit program for Living and Learning/Boys Hope Girls Hope and admitted to supplying drugs to young inmates in Massachusetts prisons with whom he was having sex, so it is clear that he had no issue with using drugs to get what he wanted. This being the case it is likely that many of the boys that were molested by Deacon William Emerson at Boys Town in Omaha Nebraska, at the Jesuit Program for Living and Learning in St. Louis Missouri, at St. Williams Parish in Tewksbury Massachusetts, and Deacon Williams Emerson's summer camp at sunset Lake Campground in Hampstead New Hampshire where he took young boys on day trips, weekend trips, weekly trips, and even month-long trips don't even know that they were molested. Deacon William Emerson often bragged about being a paramedic in his youth, so it is not surprising that he would be familiar with using syringes and have knowledge of drugs that could render someone unconscious.
Also, it should be noted that the Jesuit program for Living and Learning was a part of St. Louis University High School (SLUH) in St. Louis, Missouri, which is an all-male Jesuit-run high school in St. Louis, Missouri, and that the very same Jesuits who ran St. Louis University High School also ran the Jesuit Program for Living and Learning. Even more important to point out is the fact that many of the Jesuit Priests who taught at St. Louis University High School and frequented the Jesuit Program for Living and Learning in the 1970's, have been credibly accused by their own Jesuit Order, the Society of Jesus, of having sexually abused minors.
The Jesuits USA Central and Southern (UCS) Province in December 2018 released a list of Jesuits with credible allegations of sexual abuse of a minors. The list includes over 50 credibly accused Jesuit Priests. Below are the names of eight (8) Jesuit Priests with credible allegations of sexual abuse of a minor during the 1970's, all who worked at St. Louis University High School, and the names of five (5) other Jesuit Priests all who worked at St. Louis University High School at various other times and who were also credibly accused by the Jesuit Society of Jesus of sexual abuse of a minor.

St. Louis University High School is a Jesuit High School run by Jesuit Priests and the Jesuit Program for Living and Learning Program, now Boys Hope Girls Hope, was founded by Jesuit Priest Father Paul Sheridan who was the President of St. Louis University High School for a time.
More importantly, it should be noted that the first Jesuit Program for Living and Learning/Boys Hope Girls Hope house was literally across the street from St. Louis University High School on Lawn Pl, in St. Louis, which made it very convenient for any Jesuits who wished to visit the boys at the Jesuit Program for Living and Learning/Boys Hope Girls Hope house easy to do so, including those who were pedophiles.
Some might question, I know I do, if these Jesuit Society's like the Society of Jesus – SJ, create boy's homes/girl's homes like the Jesuit Program for Living and Learning, now Boys Hope Girls Hope, to have unfettered, around the clock access to children?
Three hundred and thirty nine (339) Jesuit Priests, and Brothers in the Society of Jesus – SJ, the very same Jesuit Society that Father Paul Sheridan belongs to, have been credibly accused of pedophilia by their own religious order, and this is just the ones who have been caught. Imagine how many other Jesuit Priests have gotten away with pedophilia because their victims, for whatever reason, never came forward. Some ashamed, some who feared not being believed, some who feared retaliation from their abuser Priest, some who feared retaliation from the Catholic Church, and worse of all some who killed themselves over the abuse like former United States Marine Christopher Klump, who St. Louis Priest Father Michael McGrath began molesting in the 1980's when the boy was in 4th grade. Christopher committed suicide just after the he learned that the statute of limitations prevented him from filing criminal charges against Father McGrath.
This is just a synopsis of what is to come. Having grown up inside the Catholic Church I saw it all. The arrogance of these Priests, Deacon's, Nuns, and Brothers to preach the word of God, then behind closed doors molest and rape Gods Children is beyond unconscionable. Father Paul Sheridan has sat by over the years and watched his pedophile friends go down like dominos, without consequence, but that time is over.
Why in the latter years of my life am I coming forward? To support all of the brave victims who are coming forward, because I am angry about the molestation I endured while living at the Jesuit Program for Living and learning, now Boys Hope Girls Hope, because I am angry at how the molestation has plagued me throughout my entire life, and because I am angry that after all that I have went through as a child I now have cancer. This is as honest as it gets! I also figured that if I don't speak up now I might not have the chance to later.
I am currently working on a website for each state where Deacon William "Bill" Emerson resided over his lifetime so that any of his victims who see the website might feel empowered to come forward, especially those in Massachusetts and New Hampshire where no doubt many of Deacon William Emerson's victims resided.
NOTE: In 2018, Deacon "Bill" Emerson passed away. When his family cleaned out his condominium in Lowell Massachusetts was cleaned out dozens of pornographic magazines, VHS tapes, and CDs were found. Some were of adult pornography but many were child pornography. There were also photographs of young boys taken at Deacon Emerson's campsite in Hampstead New Hampshire in bathing suits and it was clear from the way the pictures were taken that Deacon Emerson had purposefully positioned these boys in such a way that in each photo he took of the boys you could see up their bathing suits. This being the case it is clear that his life long sexual infatuation with young boys did not end until his death in 2018, but makes unclear when the pedophilia did.
